Rosario
Dawson - - Biography
This stunning and
resourceful actress has been primarily a film player thus far. Only recently
has she been opening herself up more to doing television (the series Gemini
Division (2008), which she executive-produced), and animated voice-overs.
Dawson's powerhouse talent stands out the most in edgy, urban filming that
dates back to 1995 when she was only sixteen.
Her career actually
started as a child when she made a minor showing on the children's show, Sesame
Street (1969). As the story goes, she was "discovered" as an
adolescent on her front porch step by two photographers. One of them, Harmony
Korine, was an aspiring screenwriter who thought the inexperienced sixteen-year-old
was ideal for the controversial cult film Kids (1995), in which she would
portray a sexually active adolescent. It took time for Rosario's film career to
kick in after that, but by the late 1990s, she had nabbed several independent
films. Since then, she has moved into main-stream hits (and misses) and has
surprised viewers with her earthy, provocative, uninhibited approach to her
roles.

Pussycats, Men in Black II and hit shows such

happens to be an activist, a partier, and someone who became famous
accidentally. Beyond all of that, she's also made headlines over questions about
her sexuality.
In 2018, she shared an
Instagram post that many interpreted as her identifying as a member of the
LGBTQ+ community, but during an interview with Bustle in February 2020, she
attempted to clarify her identity. "People kept saying that I [came
out] ... I didn't do that," she said. "I mean, it's not
inaccurate, but I never did come out come out. I mean, I guess I am
now." Dawson added, "I've never had a relationship in that
space, so it's never felt like an authentic calling to me."
Regardless of how Dawson
identifies her sexuality, there is one thing that certainly seems to be
"authentic" — her relationship with New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker

director Danny Boyle during shooting of the film Trance, which he directed and
she starred in, in 2013.

12-year-old girl in 2014.
From 2016 to 2017, Dawson
dated comedian and television host Eric Andre.

In October 2019, Dedrek
Finley, a trans man, filed a case in Los Angeles against Dawson and her family
for alleged incidents involving discrimination, verbal abuse, misgendering and
physical assault. Finley had been employed as a handyman, living with the
family and had known them for decades. Through their attorney, the Dawson
family said that they are "saddened and disappointed by these false and
baseless allegations." In August 2020, 18 of the 20 accusations, including
those against Dawson herself, were voluntarily dropped by the plaintiff.
In 2018, Dawson made a
post to Instagram which was widely perceived as her coming out; when asked
about this in a 2020 interview, she stated that this had not been her
intention, and further specified that although "it's not inaccurate",
she had never "had a relationship in that space.
